Centreless grinding is a grinding process on the OD of bars and tubes. As the name suggests centreless grinding does not need to be fixed in position, the work piece moves through a fixed grinding wheel and control wheel thus enabling very long bars or tubes to be processed, and M Precision Grinding have the ability to grind up to 15mtr long items.

A workblade is situated below the workpiece to give support whilst the grinding process is being carried out, it is the skill of the operator in setting up to ensure the grinding wheel, control wheel and workblades are all correctly aligned that enables the grinding process to achieve the optimum cut. Depending on the type of material being ground there will be many ‘passes’ though the machine with each pass taking off fractions each time until the required, very tight tolerance is achieved. By ensuring the correct grinding wheel is used for the type of material being ground, along with very tight dimensional tolerances, very tight surface finishes can be achieved to meet the most exacting of requirements.
